Congo, like many African countries, wants to diversify its sources of income and modernize its economy through digital technology. By increasing collaborations with partners experienced in this field, the country expects good results in the coming years.
Pay Rem Group Inc., an American company specializing in the modernization of financial services, will carry out several digital projects in Congo in the coming months in partnership with the government. A memorandum of understanding was signed to this effect on Monday, March 18 between the said company, the Digital Economy Development Agency (ADEN) and the Congolese Post and Savings Company (Sopeco). The initiative aims to boost digital inclusion and reduce the digital divide in the country.

Speaking about the merits of this agreement, Héliodore Francis Alex Gouloubi (photo, right), the Director General of ADEN, said that it will allow ” the implementation of a structuring project. Through this, we aim to boost the ecosystem of digital start-ups, through their involvement in the exploitation of certain financial products that will be put in place to strengthen banking .”
As part of the first phase of the tripartite partnership, several projects will be implemented in Congo, including the creation of a digital bank and a digital product production unit. The partnership also includes the provision of high-speed Internet services in the country in remote areas.
The signing of this agreement is part of the Congolese government’s efforts to digitalize all crucial sectors of the country, including the financial sector, which is of particular importance to the authorities. The modernization of these sectors and the development of the digital economy constitute the fifth pillar of the National Development Plan 2022-2026.
The implementation of the projects of this agreement should make it possible to energize and reinvent Sopeco, reduce the digital divide, develop the financial inclusion of the population, create jobs, among others. The objective is to create 3,000 to 4,000 jobs in the first phase of the project and to create 20,000 in three years.
